About Exam Board
Bengal Presidency was a vast province that included Assam, Bihar, and Orissa at the turn of the twentieth century. Administratively, such vast areas inhabited by people speaking different languages and following different traditions were extremely difficult to manage. Administrative reasons necessitated the separation of such areas that were not originally a part of Bengal.
Lord Curzon, on the other hand, partitioned Bengal into two parts and formed a new province with Assam and Eastern Bengal in 1905, with the sinister motive of wedging a communal divide among Bengal nationalists. Bihar and Orissa were retained, along with the rest of Bengal, as the province of Bengal. When Lord Curzon pointed out to the Muslims of Eastern Bengal that the new province of Eastern Bengal and Assam was conceived as a Muslim majority province, he did not hide his true motive. The partition of Bengal sparked nationwide outrage.
